Better to have a gun and not need it..

Case for Gun Ownership and Training

Better to have a gun and not need it, than the other way around!

Better to have a gun and not need it, than the other way around!

If you’ve been paying close attention to the radical changes in American gun laws recently, no doubt you’re wondering what all the fuss is about. Did you know that 1 in 10 adults in the United States has a criminal record? Quite a frightening statistic! But it’s true, and the time to protect yourself from being a victim of crime is right now! Criminal activity can happen to anyone, and it’s up to you to protect yourself and ensure that your family can sleep soundly at night knowing that you have the means to protect them from danger.

And there’s more to fear than just 1 in 10 adults in America being criminals. In the United States, a home invasion burglary happens every 14.6 seconds. That’s 5,400 burglaries per day! The average cost per year of what’s stolen adds up to 15.7 billion dollars. And the great majority of these burglaries are committed by mindless thugs, hell bent on stealing as a way to feed their drug and alcohol habits and enable themselves to commit more crime.

If you’re a mother of children and fear for their safety, you couldn’t be more right. A burglar, thief, or rapist will choose to pick on people they think are more helpless than others. That’s the way a criminal mind works. Thusly, recent legislation has become much more tolerant of law abiding citizens owning and brandishing firearms to protect their body and property. In self defense situations, especially when you feel yourself or others are in mortal danger, you have the right to protect yourself using lethal force!

The great majority of the United States have gun registration readily available to nearly every adult. Also, there are training classes available that can show you how to operate your firearm safely. Plus, learning how to shoot for target practice is a fun hobby that might just save your life if you’re ever put in the situation where you must be accurate. The instinct to protect your children comes naturally to a woman, and having a gun in the house is the right method of approach to deter thieves and criminals. If they know you’ve got a gun, they will most likely move on to a more easy target.

“Concealed carry” handgun laws are pretty much the norm for every state out there, and if you’re a mother, especially a single mother, then you’re going to want to invest in a high quality firearm to protect your family. Not doing so would be one of the stupidest mistakes you could ever make. Criminals regularly receive information from crime bosses as to who and what are easy targets. Sometimes its a business with goods that get broken into, but more often it’s a private residence.

Disaster Prepping

The Ultimate Survivalist Guide for Doomsday Preppers

As world history continually demonstrates, you never know what the future will hold, and it’s better to be safe than sorry. Individuals who are well-prepared fare much better for than those who are ill-prepared in the event of a natural disaster or other disturbance. Global pandemics occur about every 150 years or so, and you never really know when the next will strike.

Survival preparedness does not necessarily mean that doomsday is just around the corner; however, you never know exactly when a natural disaster or some other unexpected incident will limit your ability to live as you are now, forcing you into a self-preservation mode. Over the past number of years, our planet have seen numerous tornadoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, and several other man-made catastrophes that have caused people to lose power, fresh water, food, and shelter. Preparing for these events helps ensure the survival of you and your family when civilization suffers a breakdown.

Most people don’t realize that typical grocery stores only have about a three day supply of food in stock when a crisis strikes, and if anything was to upset our food chain supply for an extended period of time, there would be unrestrained chaos in most communities. Even NASA instructed its staff to prepare for potential disasters with survival foods and other precautionary measures.

Growing your food is one way to successfully prepare for a disruption in our fragile food chain. Not only can you grow on your own land, but you can construct a hydroponic system and grow indoors. The basic principle behind this method allows plants to flourish in environments where they would otherwise not grow at all.

The real purpose to hydroponic gardening is multipurpose, and building your own system is much easier than most people think. Hydroponic gardening allows plants to flourish in a soilless medium, which means that the roots of the plant take hold in a material such as perlite, vermiculite, Rockwool, or smooth volcanic rock instead of ordinary soil. This provides stability and contains air pockets that help supply oxygen to the plant’s roots. A mixture of water and nutrients is added to the container and air is pumped into the water, much like an aquarium provides air to the fish. This provides oxygen, water, and nutrients to the roots so soil is unnecessary.

You can build your own hydroponic system quite easily out of a few basic materials:

1. A plastic tub

2. An aquarium bubbler

3. Powdered plant nutrients

4. Fresh water

If you’re setting your system up outdoors, then the sun and climate will take care of lighting and humidity. If you’re setting up indoors, then you will need a source of proper lighting, ventilation, and heat.

Following are just a few of the potential threats our planet could experience at any given moment.

Heat Waves:

Heat waves are responsible for the death of more residents of the United States than any other natural disaster. As urban areas heat up, their electricity systems and power grids are strained, and the risk grows as the population ages; upwards of 10,000 people have lost their lives in past heat events.

Solar Storms:

Extremely severe solar storms have the potential to produce real damage. Milder storms may interrupt the satellites responsible for GPS communications, and strong geomagnetic storms can cause the voltage in transmission lines to spike, which could damage grid transformers and knock out power. A gigantic power outage in the nearby province of Quebec was caused by a solar storm back in 1989.

Power Grid:

Our nation’s aging, exposed power grid combined with the threat of terrorist activity and natural disasters make a long-term breakdown or collapse that could leave millions of Americans without power and in the dark is a growing probability. To experts, it’s not if it will happen, but when it will happen.

Supervolcanos:

Yellowstone National Park is situated on top of one of the largest volcanoes in the world and is what is known as a supervolvano. The last time it blew its top in a full-scale explosion it churned out about eight thousand times more ash into the air than the Mt. Saint Helens eruption back in 1980. The likelihood that it will erupt anytime soon is relatively low, as it is with most worst-case scenarios.

Survivalist Foods:

When it comes to survival foods, you want foods that are high in protein and nutrients, but that will also store well and last well into the future. It’s best to keep your survival foods simple. Concentrate on storing foods with the highest calories and the longest shelf life. Following is a list of the basic necessities:

Storing food properly means that you will have enough to last you for years. Many freeze dried foods last 35 years on the shelf! Following are a few tips for storing food properly:

Containers:

Containers play an important role in canning and storing food. Glass mason jars with a sealable rubber gasket are ideal for preserving and storing a wide variety of survivalist foods.

Canning:

One way to prepare your cupboards for self preservation is by purchasing canned foods and canning your own.

Oxygen Absorbers:

Oxygen absorbers can be used to eliminate oxygen from a sealed environment, creating a nitrogen-rich atmosphere that’s excellent for long-term food storage.
